Help and Compassion Strategy
Matthew 20:33 -34
“They say unto him, Lord, that our eyes may be opened. 34 So Jesus had compassion on them, and touched their eyes: and immediately their eyes received sight, and THEY FOLLOWED HIM.” (Words in caps ours for emphasis)
Compassion is the action fueled by someone’s passion of love. Without action, love is only an expression of passion. “For God so loved the world that He gave….” Compassion is a potent strategy for soul winning. With compassion, you act more and speak less. Help is the signature tune of the song of compassion. Our anchor scripture is the story of the two blind men who were crying out uncontrollably for Jesus to have mercy and compassion on them. They were perturbed by the caution from the disciples. These two blind men followed Jesus after their compassion-motivated miracle. May your next convert defy the distractions of men to reach out to Jesus for salvation and follow Him thereafter in Jesus name.
The salvation account of the prodigal son also reveals the singular reason the father took him back: compassion.
“And he arose, and came to his father. But when he was yet a great way off, his father saw him, and had compassion, and ran, and fell on his neck, and kissed him,”
Compassion makes an harvester suspend protocols and traditions to reach out for a lost soul. It was the prodigal son’s father who took the initiative to welcome the son. The father ran to the son, fell on his neck and kissed the son. The simple explanation is that when a man’s bowels of compassion opens up, rules are suspended for the life of the lost. Hear this: when you are in the position to show compassion, please don’t shut your bowels of compassion. Don’t ignore or wait for who ought to take the first step. Remember that Jesus died for us while we were yet sinners.
1 John 3:17
“But whoso hath this world’s good, and seeth his brother have need, and shutteth up his bowels of compassion from him, how dwelleth the love of God in him?”
Understand that in ministry, you need to touch the followers’ hearts and they will give you their hands of support. But in souls harvest, sometimes, you need to be moved with compassion to touch the sinner’s hands and they will open up their hearts for the gospel.
The power of help and compassion is an highly irresistible tool for soul winning. Jesus deployed it severally and it worked. (Matthew 9:36; 14:14; 15:32; 18:27) The disciples deployed it severally and the Lord added unto the Church such as should be saved. In Salem, we have institutionalized the “We Care Ministry” (WECAM) and “Mercy Day” as our internal and external welfare and compassion operations respectively. We equally have a Foundation majorly catering for orphans. Through these respective organs, we have helped the helpless, clothed the naked and given shelter to the homeless. We have also sponsored several orphans and indigent children up to the University level. Many are graduates of Salem University. We challenge you to join or increase in your help and compassion ministry today to enhance your soul winning capacity for Christ.
Psalms 86:15 “But thou, O Lord, art a God full of compassion, and gracious, longsuffering, and plenteous in mercy and truth.”
