THE LORD OF THE HARVEST PART 7

The Discussion Intervention Strategy

Anchor Scripture:

Acts 8:29 -31

*Then the Spirit said unto Philip, Go near, and join thyself to this chariot. 30 And Philip ran thither to him, and heard him read the prophet Esaias, and said, Understandest thou what thou readest? 31 And he said, How can I, except some man should guide me? And he desired Philip that he would come up and sit with him.*

Sometimes we advise people to mind their business and not become a busybody. That is a good advice to keep you off trouble and embarrassment. Incidentally, in soul winning, you cannot mind your business. *You must mind the Father’s business. * That may just be what you need to do to win a soul.

Our next strategy, (the seventh) is the Discussion Intervention approach for soul winning is drawn from Acts 28:29 where the Holy Spirit said to Philip: “Go near, and join yourself to this chariot.” Our Father is the Lord of the Harvest. He knows who is ripe for harvest, where the ripe fruit is and when to put in the sickle. The Ethiopian Eunuch was a typical example. In your case, the Lord may direct you to go join yourself to a football discussion or a political discussion or a cookery discussion. The Spirit of the Lord may even direct you to go participate in a business discussion or a neighbourhood association in order to leverage on the platform to minister the grace of God that brings salvation to mankind. Be sensitive to hear, discern and interpret the voice of salvation speaking from the Throne Room per time. In Philip’s case, the instruction was precise up to the very street where the potential convert could be located. Friends, God is still speaking and now, He speaks expressly (1 Timothy 4:1; Hebrew 1:2)

Some people are natural talkative and gifted in hijacking discussions. That’s not the case here. When you “Go near, and join yourself to this chariot,” listen to the discussion to have a perfect understanding of what the  subject of discourse is. Ask the Holy Spirit for guidance on what to say or how best to engage. I am a product of this strategy. My immediate elder brother, my niece and I were engaged in a professional discussion on the 29th August, 1988, at Nkpogu in Port Harcourt, Nigeria.  Specifically, we were debating on which profession was more noble between Medicine and Law. In the course of that discourse, the Holy Ghost intervened and they switched the topic. I found myself in between a born again Medical Doctor and a born again Medical Student preaching Christ to me in a teleguided fashion. I was instantly convicted but assured them I would pray the Sinner’s Prayer in my closet before sleeping that night.

Surprisingly, I didn’t keep my promise to pray, even though I remembered vividly. At 4:30AM or thereabout, I had a visitation from the Lord. He thundered expressly with a deep masculine baritone voice asking: “Have you prayed that prayer”. I immediately jumped up from sleep looking for who spoke to me. I went round the entire Main Building and the Back house, where I was, looking for the man to no avail. Just as I was about to give up, I heard the voice again, now as a still small voice saying: “I am the Lord.” Pronto, I rushed back to my room with goose pimples all over me. In tears, I went on my knees beside the bed and invited Christ into my life. Alleluia to the Lamb of God.

Those two believers spoke right and spoke wisely to me. Like Philip, they didn’t miss the golden opportunity. You will not miss the next opportunity in Jesus name. The mouth of the righteous speaks wisdom (Psalm 37:30). You shall speak the right word in season in Jesus name. Your opening sentence must be right.

Proverbs 2:6

*”For the LORD giveth wisdom: out of his mouth cometh knowledge and understanding.”*

Finally, when you allow the Holy Spirit to lead you, He will make you desirable or sought after by the potential soul. Do not throw yourself on them lest you become a nuisance. Maintain a measure of decorum. Connect to his or spirit in heart prayer and the Holy Spirit will do what He knows best: convict. The Ethiopian Eunuch “desired Philip that he would come up and sit with him.” That’s a sign of conviction. May your next potential convert desire to hear more from you in Jesus mighty name.

Prayer Points:

  1. O Lord, speak expressly to me concerning who is ripe, where to locate him or her and when to put in the sickle.
  2. O Lord, make me and my voice desirable to my potential converts.
  3. O Lord, grant me utterance and unction to speak the right word in season in Jesus mighty name.

We are on a rescue mission to Africa. Look out for an opportunity to apply today’s strategy. We want to here your testimonies.
